Delta Assembly Pledges Continuous Effort to Make State Safe, and Peaceful

ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State House of Assembly has pledged to continue their supports on policies and decisions that we make the state, and the entire Niger Delta safe and peaceful.

This position was given at the Delta State Report on Insecurity by the Niger Delta Dialogue Secretariat in an event held Thursday, September 17, 2020 at the Orchid Hotel Asaba.

Receiving the report, the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon Christopher Ochor Ochor, who represented the Speaker, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, acknowledged the efforts of the organisers of the workshop, and promised to look at it critically, and come out with a position.

He pointed that the assembly had through their legislative works put in place machineries to curb all forms of violence, especially in the area of political, electoral, community, and issues arising from boundary disputes.

“We will look at the report, and come out with our position on it. But we put in place through our legislative work laws that will curb issues like electoral and political violence, boundary issues, organised crimes such as banditry, militancy, among others.”

The Deputy Speaker pointed out that to ensure that activities of criminalities are reduced in the state, the assembly recently passed the law on community policing, stating that they are determined as a house to ensure the state is safe and peaceful.

“We are determined to continue to support every effort and policy to make Delta safer, and better. And this was the reason the law on community policing was recently passed by the Delta State House of Assembly”

He also acknowledged the efforts by the state government under Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, to see the state remain better, and safe, as he pointed out; “I also have to commend the government under, His Excellency Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa, for his efforts to ensure that Delta remains better, safer, and a wonderful place to live. I think you can confirm that since this administration, Delta had enjoyed reliable peace in all corners, in all sections weather in communities, as a government or as a people.”

He further stated that they will not only partner with the government, but with organisations such as the Niger Delta Dialogue Secretariat to make the state, and Niger Delta safer, better, peaceful community to stay.

The event which had the Chairman of the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, HRM Dr. Emmanuel Efizormo, Obi of Owa, as the chairman and representatives of the Deputy Governor, organised to present the organisations research report on Insecurity in Delta State: Issues, Actors and Solutions.
