ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Special Projects has pledged to collaborate with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to ensure the timely and high-quality completion of all ongoing infrastructure projects across the state.
Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Oboro Kenneth Preyor, made this commitment during the first day of a three-week oversight inspection of major road, bridge, and drainage projects spread across the state’s three senatorial districts. The projects inspected include Sectors A, C1, and C2 of the Ughelli-Ozoro-Kwale-Asaba dualisation road project, the Gully Control project at Ogwashi-Uku, and the Kwale-Beneku road and bridge project in Ndokwa West Local Government Area.
Preyor, along with other committee members, including Hon. Emmanuel Sinebe, James Augoye, Ferguson Onwo, Edafe Emakpor, Bridget Anyafulu, and Ebitonmo Alapala, emphasized the importance of contractors adhering to high standards and meeting agreed deadlines. Preyor, who represents Bomadi State Constituency, underscored that this oversight visit is a constitutional responsibility aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability, in line with the goals of Governor Oborevwori’s administration.
He stressed that the state’s resources must be utilised effectively, ensuring value for money on all projects. Preyor said that collaboration between the Assembly and other relevant stakeholders would guarantee cost-effective execution without compromising quality. Contractors, he noted, must follow approved designs and specifications to ensure the long-term durability of infrastructure.
The lawmaker urged Delta State residents to take ownership of government projects and support the governor’s MORE agenda, which focuses on sustainable development. He reassured citizens that the 8th Delta State Assembly, under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, would remain committed to ensuring judicious use of the state’s resources for the benefit of all Deltans.
Preyor also expressed optimism about the near-completion of the Kwale-Beneku bridge, highlighting its potential to boost the welfare and economic activities of local communities. He commended Governor Oborevwori for consistently funding these projects, noting that contractors are paid promptly to avoid delays.
During the visit to Sector A of the dualisation project, Preyor praised the construction company for adhering to specifications and committing to a June 2025 completion date. He also urged the Ministry of Works and companies responsible for the sector C1 and C2 dualisation project to ensure the work is finished to a high standard and ahead of schedule.
The oversight visits will continue across other projects in the state’s three senatorial districts.
