Delta Assembly Pledges Support for Health Development Bill

ASABA/Nigeria: The Chairman of the Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Health, Hon. Ferguson Onwo, has reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to enacting laws that improve the health and well-being of Deltans.

Hon. Onwo, who represents Isoko South Constituency 2, made this statement during a public hearing on the proposed law to establish the Delta State College of Health Technology in Ovrode, Isoko North Local Government Area.

Describing the initiative as a groundbreaking collaboration between the state government and the World Bank, Onwo said the college would enhance the health sector and reduce under-five mortality rates across the state. He highlighted the choice of a rural community like Ovrode for the project as evidence of the government’s dedication to grassroots development.

“We are very proud of this innovation by the state government and the World Bank. Establishing the College of Health Technology in Ovrode reflects a focus on rural development. I urge the host community to protect this institution when it becomes a reality,” Onwo said.

He expressed gratitude to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for selecting a location in Isoko Nation for the project, adding that the community was excited about the opportunities the college would bring. Onwo called on residents to continue supporting the governor’s MORE Agenda for sustainable development.

“The Isoko people are receptive to this great initiative by His Excellency, and we will keep supporting him to ensure the success of the MORE Agenda,” he stated.

Onwo assured stakeholders that all memoranda and oral submissions from the public hearing would be carefully considered by the committee before presenting its report to the House.

The public hearing, held at the Assembly Complex in Asaba, was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Justice, the Provost of the College of Health Technology Ufuoma, environmental workers, and other stakeholders. Onwo commended their contributions and active participation in the legislative process.
