Delta Assembly Speaker Leads Delegation to Edo, Pledges Support for Tinubu’s Agenda

BENIN-CITY/Nigeria: The Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on Tuesday, hosted a high-level delegation from the Delta State House of Assembly, led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, in Benin City. The visit was a gesture of solidarity with their counterparts in the Edo State House of Assembly, following a significant political shift where Speaker Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku and other members elected under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Delta delegation included the Majority Leader, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi; Chief Whip, Perkins Umukoro; Deputy Chief Whip, Fred Martins; Majority Whip, Bernard Odior; and other members such as Charles Emetulu, Emmanuel Sinebe, Bridget Anyafulu, and Blessing Achoja.
During the visit, Speaker Guwor emphasized the strong bond between the Delta and Edo State Assemblies, citing the support for Speaker Agbebaku and his fellow defectors as an expression of this unity. Guwor also informed Governor Okpebholo that 22 PDP members in the Delta Assembly, including himself, had officially joined the APC earlier that day, marking a significant political shift in the state. He described the decision as one made with the best interests of Deltans in mind and reiterated their commitment to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Governor Okpebholo welcomed the delegation, praising the Delta lawmakers for their solidarity and for the collaborative spirit they had shown. He lauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State for his developmental efforts and pledged to deepen the cooperation between Edo and Delta States moving forward.
The delegation was first received by Edo State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, who also commended the visiting lawmakers for their unity and forward-thinking alliance. Speaker Guwor, who is also the National Treasurer of the Conference of Speakers of State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria, hailed the mass defection as a pivotal moment in South-South politics, signaling a new era of political realignment with strengthened ties between Delta and Edo under the APC.
The visit was witnessed by several members of the Edo State House of Assembly, marking a historic moment of collaboration between the two states.
