BENIN-CITY/Nigeria: The Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Nkem Nwaeke, and his wife, Mrs. Mary Nwaeke, have been honoured with the Outstanding Parents Award by Immaculate Conception College, Benin City, Edo State, in recognition of their sustained support for the institution.
The couple received the award during the college’s 2025/2026 graduation ceremony, where their son, Michael Nosike Nkem-Nwaeke, was among the graduating students.
Presenting the award, the Principal of the all-boys Catholic college, Most Rev. Fr. Anthony Ekhaisomi, said the recognition was in appreciation of the couple’s consistent commitment to the growth and development of the institution through their active participation in its programmes and activities.
According to the award citation, the honour was conferred on the Nwaekes for their “unwavering commitment, support, and contributions towards the growth and success of this College,” naming them Outstanding Parents for the 2025/2026 academic session.
Fr. Ekhaisomi described the couple as exemplary partners in the school’s educational mission, noting that they had maintained a close relationship with the college throughout the education of their two sons.
He recalled that the couple’s first son graduated from the institution two years ago, while their second son completed his studies during the current academic session.
The Principal said the Nwaekes had consistently responded to the college whenever their support was required, adding that their dedication to academic excellence, moral values and institutional development made them deserving recipients of the award.
He further noted that strong collaboration between parents and schools remains vital to promoting students’ academic achievement, character formation and the overall progress of educational institutions.
Also honoured during the ceremony were Dr. Peter and Mrs. Cynthia Agbonrofo, as well as Mr. Mike and Mrs. MaryJane Omofese, in recognition of their active involvement and support for the college.
The presentation drew applause from parents, members of staff, graduating students and invited guests who attended the ceremony, which marked the successful completion of the 2025/2026 academic session.
The event attracted alumni, dignitaries, families and well-wishers who gathered to celebrate the achievements of the graduating class.
