ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori proudly declared that Delta State is steadily growing on all economic development indicators, emerging as a powerhouse among Nigerian states.
The Governor made this assertion during his remarks at a thanksgiving service held at the Government House Chapel, Asaba, to mark the 33rd anniversary of the state’s creation.
Reflecting on the state’s journey since its inception, Governor Oborevwori described the past 33 years as a period of trials and triumphs, tests and testimonies.
“I am proud to say that in 33 years of existence, Delta State has evolved into a strong, vibrant, strategic component of the Nigerian federation. Judging by all the indices of development, the state occupies a pride of place in the Nigerian federation. Both locally and internationally, our people are renowned for their entrepreneurial drive, passion, and ingenuity,” he stated.
The Governor called on Deltans to continue uniting in prayer, seeking God’s blessings and protection for the state. He emphasized the importance of divine guidance in ensuring the state’s success, urging everyone to place their trust in God.
“As we use this opportunity of this anniversary to take stock, I want to assure all Deltans and residents in the state that it can only get better from here,” Oborevwori assured.
Governor Oborevwori expressed his gratitude to the people of Delta State for their peaceful conduct during the recent #EndBadGovernance protests, encouraging continued support and solidarity to help deliver on the promises of his administration’s MORE Agenda.
On the issue of security, the Governor pledged to maintain peace and security across the state, acknowledging that sustainable peace is essential for enduring development. He highlighted his administration’s commitment to investing in infrastructural renewal, healthcare, education, and social investment programs, noting significant progress made over the past 15 months.
“In the past 15 months, we have demonstrated our resolve to keep Delta State ahead on all indices of social and economic development,” he said.
Governor Oborevwori also reaffirmed his administration’s collaboration with security agencies to combat kidnapping, cultism, and other crimes, ensuring the safety and security of all residents in Delta State.
“Like I promised Deltans in my MORE Agenda, we will continue to enhance peace and security; we are doing our best because when you look at what is happening in other states, you will know that we are trying as a state,” he added.
In his address, the Governor paid tribute to former Governors, deputies, political office holders, civil servants, royal fathers, community leaders, and Deltans at home and in the diaspora whose sacrifices have contributed to the peace and progress of the state.
Earlier in the service, Pastor Shiyanbade Adekunle, the State Mission Overseer of Living Faith Church, delivered a sermon titled “The Power Of Collective Thanksgiving,” urging Deltans to continually give thanks to God for His blessings on their lives and the state. He emphasized that those who acknowledge God’s works through thanksgiving would experience continued blessings.
The service, which also included prayers for the state, featured the reading of Psalm 136 by the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, and served as a moment of reflection and gratitude for the achievements of Delta State over the past 33 years.
