ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF) has congratulated His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, and the people of Delta State on the 34th anniversary of the creation of the state.
In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Ehvwubare Oghenekparobo, FIMC, ANIPR, the Forum described the August 27, 1991 creation of Delta by former Military President, Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, GCFR, as the beginning of a journey that has produced remarkable growth, cultural diversity, and progressive governance that consistently brings government closer to the people.
DOPF acknowledged the achievements of successive administrations but noted that industrial expansion and security remain pressing challenges. The Forum commended Governor Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E Agenda for its pragmatic approach to governance, with visible improvements in project execution, particularly in road infrastructure, describing it as a deliberate effort to entrench good governance and accelerate development.
The Forum further urged the Governor to seize the moment of this 34th anniversary to assent to the recently passed Community Security Bill by the Delta State House of Assembly. It stressed that the Bill, once implemented, would provide an institutional framework to complement existing measures in addressing insecurity, a major challenge confronting communities and businesses in the state.
“As we celebrate this milestone, we commend past leaders and all arms of government for their contributions to Delta’s progress,” the statement added. “We salute the resilience and determination of Deltans whose collective drive continues to shape the state’s forward march.” DOPF reaffirmed its commitment to developmental journalism and constructive reportage in building a stronger, safer, and more prosperous Delta State.
