WARRI/Nigeria: The successes recorded in the upward growth in the internally generated revenue (IGR) profile of Delta State have been traced to the adoption of creative policies and strategic business plans by the management of the Delta State Internal Revenue Service.
This position was made known yesterday in Warri by the Executive Director, Delta State Internal Revenue Service, Mr Kelly Oghenekevwe, when he played host to student officers and faculty members of the Nigerian Army College of Logistics and Management, NACOLM, Ojo, Lagos, who visited the revenue service.
The visit was part of their Senior Leadership and Staff Officers Course 1/2023 national study tour of Delta State, with theme: “Enhancing National Security through Socio-economic Development”.
Oghenekevwe noted that the Delta State Internal Revenue Service was a critical partner with the state government in facilitating economic development through the generation of needed funds.
The executive director listed some of the policy thrusts of the revenue service to include the review and enhancement of its enforcement, audit and investigative units, data gathering, enumeration and profiling of taxpayers, introduction of the whistleblower policy, which he said had yielded positive results, amongst other creative strategies.
Speaking at the interactive session, the team leader of the delegation, Colonel JA Emuekpere (Rtd.), described the visit as part of the school’s desire to produce efficient and effective officers with practical leadership and management skills.
He commended the management of the service for its style, which he said focused on decentralization of authority, participatory leadership, monthly revenue monitoring.
Colonel Emuekpere affirmed the military’s willingness to continue to work towards achieving a secure environment for Nigerians to carry out their lawful activities.
The highpoint of the day was the presentation of a NACOLM Souvenir by Colonel Emuekpere to the Executive Director.
