AKUMAZI/Nigeria: Residents of Akumazi-Umuocha in Ika North-East Local Government Area are expected to benefit from improved access to farms, markets and residential areas as the Delta State Government begins construction of two roads in the community.
The projects, covering Ogbe-Uku Road and Idumu Igwe Street, were formally flagged off on Saturday by the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu.
The intervention is expected to address some of the internal road challenges in the agrarian community, where residents depend largely on farming and small-scale commercial activities for their livelihoods.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Aniagwu said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori had approved the projects and directed that work should commence without delay.
He described the roads as part of the state government’s effort to extend infrastructure development beyond major urban centres, arguing that rural communities also require functional road networks to support economic activities and improve residents’ daily lives.
According to the commissioner, better roads within Akumazi-Umuocha would make movement easier for residents and improve access to farms, markets and other essential facilities.
He added that the projects reflected the administration’s commitment to rural infrastructure under its MORE Agenda, which focuses on Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security.
The construction of the two roads adds to the infrastructure projects being undertaken by the state government in Ika North-East and other local government areas.
For residents of Akumazi-Umuocha, the significance of the intervention will ultimately depend on the quality of construction, timely completion and the extent to which the roads improve movement within the community.
