OZORO/Nigeria: The Executive Chairman of Isoko North Local Government Area, Deacon Christian Iteire has called on the Nigerian Police Force to mount more checkpoints on the Isoko axis of the Ughelli/Ozoro road to curb crimes in the areas.
Iteire made the call when he paid a visit to the scene of the armed robbery of a Bullion Van in Otor-Owhe town, along Ughelli/Ozoro express Way in Isoko North Local Government Area.
“The mounting of checkpoint at strategic places, especially on the Ughelli-Isoko-Asaba highway would help in curbing crimes in the area.
“Obviously, certain persons provided the robbers the information before they attacked the Bullion Van.
“I am calling on the officers of the Nigeria Police Force as a matter of urgency to handle the robbery issue with quick investigations.
“I wish to appeal to the Federal Government of Nigeria to increase the numbers of bullion van security personnel in order to prevent such things never to happen again” he said.
The robbery operation lasted for several minutes with both the robbers and some officers of the Nigerian Police sustaining injuries while several vehicles were damaged in the shoot out.
It could be recalled that in the recent past, armed robbers have been terrorizing the areas, robbing the rich and the poor in equal measure.
