Delta Bureau DG Debunks Governor’s Involvement in Content Creator’s Arrest

LAGOS/Nigeria: Director General of the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, has clarified that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori had no involvement in the recent questioning of a Sapele-based content creator, Mr. Uge Elo Kenneth, by law enforcement agents.

Speaking on Tuesday during an interview with a national radio station, Oghenesivbe assured that the young man was apprehended and released the same day, emphasizing that the decision was made by law enforcement agents independently, not at the governor’s directive.

Oghenesivbe stressed that Governor Oborevwori, known for his deep commitment to democratic principles and freedom of expression, would never order the arrest of a citizen for voicing concerns about infrastructural issues in their area.

“The governor is a core democrat and strong advocate for free speech. There is a strong connection between him and the people, and he is always open to constructive criticism,” Oghenesivbe stated.

He further explained that law enforcement agents have various legal reasons to question individuals, but in this case, the arrest was not politically motivated. He urged the public to stop associating the incident with the state government, noting that the governor respects the rights of citizens to express their grievances, especially when it concerns the delivery of good governance.

Addressing the broader issue of road infrastructure, Oghenesivbe revealed that Governor Oborevwori’s administration is already addressing the deplorable state of roads in several parts of Delta State, including Sapele. He assured that as the dry season approaches, the government will intensify road rehabilitation and reconstruction projects across the 25 local government areas in line with the governor’s MORE Agenda.

“There are ongoing roadworks in Sapele to ease traffic, and more roads will be attended to during the dry season. Governor Oborevwori is determined to ensure that bad roads across the state are rehabilitated or reconstructed in phases throughout his administration,” Oghenesivbe said.

The MORE Agenda, a key policy framework of the Oborevwori administration, focuses on infrastructure development, economic growth, and overall well-being for the people of Delta State. Oghenesivbe encouraged all Deltans, regardless of political affiliation, to support the governor’s efforts to improve the state.

Oghenesivbe also advised content creators and other citizens to adopt safer means of drawing attention to issues, warning against dangerous methods like bathing in contaminated water to make a point. “Governor Oborevwori cares about the health of his people. Health is wealth, and no one should expose themselves to unnecessary health risks,” he added.

The DG reiterated the governor’s openness to constructive criticism as a valuable tool for governance, underscoring that such feedback helps in improving infrastructure and other areas of development across the state.
