ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA) on Wednesday launched a renewed and vigorous environmental sanitation campaign across major locations in the capital territory, reaffirming its determination to sustain a cleaner, safer, and healthier urban environment.

The exercise commenced at the State Secretariat and moved through Macdons Eatery, Akpu Junction, NTA Road, Anwai Road Inter-Bau Roundabout, and Camp 74 areas. It attracted a large deployment of agency officials, sanitation workers, and public awareness teams working in coordination to address sanitation challenges.

Spearheading the media engagement was Ms. Ngozi Peter, who, along with her team, sensitized residents, business operators, and shop owners on their responsibilities in maintaining environmental cleanliness. She stressed the importance of registering with the Private Sector Participation (PSP) waste disposal scheme and adhering to waste management regulations.

The agency’s Environmental Sanitation Unit, led by Mr. Isaac Nwosu and backed by Field Marshals, undertook a comprehensive clean-up of drains, gutters, and setbacks along the identified routes. The operation targeted the removal of accumulated refuse, illegal structures, and blockages that contribute to flooding and environmental degradation.

Addressing the media during the exercise, the Director General of the DSCTDA, Mr. Patrick Ukah, issued a strong warning to residents and businesses who flout sanitation laws or obstruct the agency’s operations. He declared that defaulters would be promptly prosecuted before a mobile court to serve as a deterrent.

Mr. Ukah noted that the sanitation drive is part of the agency’s broader agenda to enforce environmental regulations and promote sustainable hygiene practices across the capital territory. He reiterated the government’s commitment to achieving a clean and livable city through constant engagement and strict enforcement of sanitation laws.
