UGHELLI/Nigeria: In a landmark political move signaling rare unity in Delta State politics, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta Central Senatorial District on Sunday adopted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as their sole candidates for the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement took place at the APC Delta Central Mega Unity Meeting held in Ughelli, where top political figures, federal and state lawmakers, commissioners, local government chairmen, and party stalwarts converged to reaffirm their collective support for Tinubu and Oborevwori.
Rt. Hon. Francis Waive, member representing Ughelli/Udu Federal Constituency, moved the motion for adoption, commending President Tinubu’s economic reforms and Governor Oborevwori’s “astute leadership and performance.” The motion was seconded by former federal lawmaker, Hon. Halims Agoda, and unanimously adopted via voice vote by the gathering.
Senator Ede Dafinone, who presided over the adoption, declared the motion carried, describing it as a reflection of the growing confidence in both leaders.
In a rousing speech, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Chief Festus Keyamo, SAN, described the meeting as a turning point in the political history of Delta Central and hailed Tinubu as “the most astute economic manager of Nigeria’s resources.” He praised the synergy between Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, saying their partnership was in the best interest of the state and the nation.
“This is not an ordinary meeting. This is Ukodo base,” Keyamo declared. “Since 1999, there has been no time that the Urhobo nation, Delta Central, has been this united. I want to bet with everything I have that for the first time, Delta State will return APC 100 percent.”
He revealed plans to replicate the unity meeting across the eight local government areas of Delta Central, down to wards and polling units, urging party leaders to sustain the momentum with courage and determination.
Delta State APC Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, lauded the commitment of party faithful and commended both Governor Oborevwori and Keyamo for championing unity within the party. He described the meeting as a strategic realignment ahead of 2027, calling on supporters to remain focused and disciplined.
Also speaking, APC Delta Central Chairman, Chief Paulinus Akpeki, described the event as a new dawn for the state, noting that Governor Oborevwori’s defection to APC had reshaped Delta’s political landscape.
“Today is a day of unity, of purpose, and vision,” Akpeki declared. “It’s a day to reaffirm our commitment to work together as one indivisible family.”
Other notable party leaders, including 2015 APC governorship candidate Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, Executive Director at NEXIM Bank Chief Stella Okotete, Chief Adviser to the Delta State Governor Senator Ighoyota Amori, and Ughelli North Chairman Chief Jaro Egbo, also pledged to work for the success of the APC in 2027.
The gathering, attended by federal lawmakers, state legislators, commissioners, local government chairmen, and federal appointees, marks a significant shift in Delta State politics, potentially redefining alliances ahead of the next general election.
