Delta Commissioner Tasks Journalists on Dissemination of Government Policies, Programmes

ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Commissioner for Lands and Surveys, Chief Chika Ossai has charged journalists to rise up to their professional duty in disseminating government policies and programmes in the state.

The Commissioner made the call when the members of Indigenous Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), paid him a courtesy call in his office in Asaba.

Chief Ossai thanked the group for their goodwill and called on them to use their professional expertise to chart a course towards achieving the development of the state.

Reacting to an issue raised, he said that revocation of land was based on mode of acquisition and public interest, explaining that proper acquisition of land would attract compensation adding that 60 percent of compensation had been paid on revoked land in the State.

He expressed his commitment in driving away fake staff in the ministry that lure people into acquiring land illegally.

The Commissioner said that land acquisition by the state government was done in conjunction with individual developers for the purpose of housing project which would attract development in the state.

Earlier in his address, the Chairman of the Indigenous Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Bath Ozah, thanked the commissioner for his hospitality and promised to a robust partnership between the chapel and the ministry to effectively serve the people.

Also present at the occasion was the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr Jude Aguonye and Director of Finance and Administration Mr Paul Atani.
