ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has underscored the overall importance of the various entrepreneurial and empowerment programmes of the state government.

Aniagwu gave the insight while playing host to the Managing Director, Kingsley Ighomwenghian, and some staff of the Daily Independent Newspaper in his office in Asaba, the state capital.

He said that the state government not only empowered the various beneficiaries after being rigorously selected and trained on different entrepreneurial drives, but ensured close monitoring of their business activities thereafter, towards the realisation of the goals of the programmes.

Aniagwu said that “after the painstaking process of selection to ensure that only the serious minded people who would make good use of the skills impacted and the starter packs given, they are given business management and leadership trainings before empowering them with starter packs and an initial setup capital to start their businesses. It doesn’t end there. Close monitoring and mentorship to ensure value and to see that the goals of the programmes are achieved have been adopted.”

“Their successes don’t end with buying cars and building houses or getting married, but for us, their success is interpreted by the numbers of persons they are able to also positively impact upon.”

Aniagwu lauded the management of the newspaper for its collaboration and robust reporting of the activities of the state government since the inception of the Okowa Administration and promised to take the partnership a step forward.

Speaking earlier,  Ighomwenghian commended  the state governor, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa, for his relentless effort towards the realisation of a stronger Delta state through all the various projects and programmes in the state.

He thanked the commissioner for ensuring the mutual beneficial relationship enjoyed by the newspaper with the Ministry of information in state and advocated for its continuity.
