Delta Commissioner Warns Students Against Violence, Exam Malpractice

ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, has advised students in tertiary institutions to desist from the issue of violence, cultism and examination malpractice.

Mr Aniagwu gave the advice when members of National Association of Nigerian Female Students (NANFS) paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Asaba.

According to the Information Commissioner, studying in school environment comes with different needs, challenges but admonished them not to use extracurricular activities to replace their study.

He commended the student body for finding out time to improve on the life of other students with their programme.

Mr Aniagwu noted that government alone could not fund education, urging public spirited individuals and well meaning Nigerians to join in ensuring quality education in schools.

“Once you come up with a great idea either as a student or individual, it means you are contributing greatly to the growth of the world,” he stated.

While noting that great ideas rule the world and not money, the information commissioner assured the students of his ministry support towards building a stronger Delta and the nation in general.

He urged them to collaborate with the main bodies that address both the issues of male and female gender in the society.

Earlier, the President of the association, Miss Joan Obi, commended the leadership quality of Mr Aniagwu and his contribution towards the building and actualization of a stronger Delta in line with Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s agenda.

Miss Obi stated that the association would embark on a sensitization campaign tagged, “Save Education, Save the Future of the Nigerian Female Child”, saying that writing material would be distributed to different public schools in the country.

While soliciting for financial support, she also disclosed that NANFS would partner genuine international organizations to advocate for the rights of the Nigerian Female Child, reiterating that the association would also launch an action tagged “Nigerian Rebirth” with the agenda of reforming the lives of the youths in the nation.

The highlight of the visit was the presentation of an award titled, “21st Century Icon of Diligent Service and Role Model to the Younger Generation” by the visitors to the commissioner.
