UGHELLI/Nigeria: The people of Otor-Ogor community in Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta state have called on the federal and state government to come to their rescue as Fulani herdsmen attack has reached its alarming state.
Ogor community made the call when some Fulani herdsmen attacked and killed one Anthony Edjabare who tried to protect his wife from being raped by the herdsmen.
Anthony Edjabare 55, an oil pipe-line guard, who hails from Ajeokuta in Otor-Ogor in Ughelli North Local Government Area was murdered by the suspected herdsmen in the farm when he tried to protect his wife from been raped in her farm by the herdsmen.
Aggrieved members of the community who took the corpse of late Anthony Edjabare to the Ughelli Area Command where they were met by some officers, lamented the incessant attacks by the Fulani herdsmen in the Niger Delta area, saying that it had gone on over the years.
They stated that all communities surrounding Ogor had been attacked by these Fulani herdsmen. “The activities of these Fulani herdsmen in the Niger-Delta have reached its alarming state. These attacks have gone on over the years. All the communities surrounding Ogor has been attacked by these Fulani herdsmen. We thought it will not happen again but it has happen again.”
According to the wife of the deceased, Mrs Edjabare, she had gone to the farm to meet her husband and was on her way back when she was accosted by the herdsmen who ordered her to drop her load and undress. It was when she stated pleading for mercy from the herdsmen that her husband came to find out what was wrong.
The helpless widow, narrating her ordeal said on sighting her husband, the Fulani herdsmen open fire and gunned down her husband and still went ahead to rape her leaving her to cater for the eleven children the deceased left behind.
The community therefore call on the federal and state government to come to their rescue and curb the menace of the Fulani herdsmen as they can no longer go to their farms without been raped or their husbands been killed.
