KWALE/Nigeria: In line with its commitment to have a king, the Okpala-Uku-in-council and the Onotu-Ukus-in-council of Utagba-Uno, Ndokwa West local government area of Delta state has inaugurated a committee of inquiry to investigate and determine what derailed the Ebologwu kingship of the community.
HRM Nduka Ozegbe, the Okpala-Uku of Utagba-Uno inaugurated the Committee named ‘Utagba-Uno Community Administrative Committee of Inquiry’ on Monday at a ceremony that was well attended at the Palace of the Okpala-Uku in Utagba-Uno.
The Committee is “to investigate and determine what and who derailed the Ebologu of Utagba-Uno system established by the seven quarters of Utagba-Uno and gazzetted as Delta State Legal Notice no 14-17 of 1996, recommend the modalities for reviving the said Ebologu rulership system in Utagba-Uno and identify any person or persons who suffered any damage, loss or injury and why they so suffered during the Okpala-Uku/Ebologu impasse from 1985-2012 and suggest ways and means of appeasing them.”
HRM Ozegbe who spoke through Mr Sam Enyadike at the occasion asserted: “sixteen clans in Ndokwa land as at 2017 have established modern rulership where educated, enlightened and energetic middle aged men have been selected by their respective communities as rulers, Utagba-Uno desires to follow the new trend of rulership pervading Ndokwa land and 29 (twenty-nine)-man committee is mandated to interview living members of the former Ebologu drafting committee, Okpala-Ukus, Onotu-Ukus, women, elders, youths and any Utagba-Uno person they consider reasonable and knowledgeable to give any information; the committee is free to request for memorandum from Utagba-Uno Progress Union anywhere in the federation and from Utagba-Uno sons and daughters anywhere including the diaspora.
The committee which has three months to present its report has Chief Major Mike Ogbedo (rtd) as Chairman, Chief S. Okom, Chief Mike Egwutu, Chief Mathias Ukpe, Chief P.F. Tobi, Chief Peter Akpor, Chief Mathias Osogbue, among others as members while Chief Augustine Ebuogbei as Secretary and Barr. Nwasor as legal adviser.
Chairman of the committee, Chief Ogbedo on behalf of other members of the committee, thanked the Okpala-Uku-in-Council and the Onotu-Ukus-in-Council of Utagba-Uno, for choosing them to serve in the committee, stating that Utagba-Uno as the largest clan in Ndokwa land should not be lagging behind in progressive ventures.
He expressed confidence that the committee will carry out its duties without bias but with the interest of the future of the community at heart, adding that the committee will carry every one along for there to be peace in the society.
