ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has ordered the immediate arrest and investigation of one Ike Peter, a member of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, over the alleged cold-blooded killing of a student of Ogwashi-Uku Polytechnic, Peter Eyorowalebo.
The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, April 30, 2025. According to a police statement, at about 9:30 a.m., the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ogwashi-Uku received a distress call that the victim, a 29-year-old student, had been shot in his room while reading and preparing for his upcoming exams.
Responding swiftly, officers from the division arrived at the scene to find Eyorowalebo lying in a pool of blood. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead by the attending physician. His body has since been deposited in the mortuary for autopsy.
The suspect, Ike Peter, was arrested on the spot and, following the directive of the Commissioner of Police, has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a discreet and thorough investigation.
In a statement issued by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, CP Abaniwonda expressed deep condolences to the grieving family and the entire student community of Ogwashi-Uku Polytechnic. He assured them that justice will be pursued with the full weight of the law.
“I have directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the SCID to personally take over the case and ensure a comprehensive investigation,” the CP said, adding, “No stone will be left unturned in ensuring that justice is served.”
The Police Command urged members of the public, especially students and residents of Ogwashi-Uku, to remain calm and allow the law to take its course, stressing that the command will not tolerate any abuse of power by individuals or groups, regardless of their affiliation.
