ASABA/Nigeria: Content creators and social media influencers have been called upon to harness their creativity to project a positive image of Delta State and Nigeria.
The charge was given by Miss Henrietta Enwereaku, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, during the inaugural Delta Creators and Influencers Hangout held on Friday at Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba.
Speaking at the event, Miss Enwereaku emphasized the importance of content creation in shaping perceptions and highlighted the role of social media in promoting Delta State’s image. She expressed gratitude to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for prioritizing youth development through initiatives aimed at advancing the creative industry. She assured participants of her office’s commitment to supporting young talents to achieve success in content creation.
Miss Orode Uduaghan, Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services, and Girl Child Development, commended the initiative, stating that positive content could correct misconceptions about the state. She encouraged the organizers to sustain the programme to ensure its long-term impact.
Keynote speakers Dr. Ella Ezeadilieje and Mr. Onye Ubanatu, both prominent social media influencers, stressed the need for truthfulness, creativity, and consistency in content creation. They urged creators to focus on building legacies and warned against the misuse of social media to spread false narratives, emphasizing the importance of objectivity and selflessness in storytelling.
Other speakers called for collaboration among comedians and content creators to campaign against the distortion of facts on social media. They encouraged participants to develop skits and comedic content that showcase Delta State’s achievements in creativity, education, sports, entertainment, and tourism.
The event also featured a panel discussion involving notable figures such as Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Bright Edafe, and comedian Frank De Don. Panelists discussed the role of social media in raising awareness and educating global audiences, highlighting its potential as a tool for positive change.
