KWALE/Nigeria: The Delta State Government has delivered a 30-seater Coastal Bus to the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Kwale, as part of efforts to support the institution’s operations and development.
The presentation was made at Government House, Asaba, on Tuesday by the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, Ph.D., who represented Governor Sheriff Oborevwori at the event.
The governor said the vehicle was part of his administration’s support for the university and followed an earlier commitment to provide transportation assistance to the institution.
He said the state government recognised the role of the university in developing human capital, particularly in the medical and health sectors, and was prepared to work with its management to advance the objectives for which the Federal Government established it.
According to Oborevwori, Delta is home to several federal universities and other tertiary institutions, alongside state-owned institutions, all of which require varying levels of government support.
“We are committed to working with you and supporting the institution within the limits of our capacity. Obviously, we cannot do everything, but where there is something we can reasonably do to assist the institution, we will always be willing to consider it,” he said.
The governor said the presentation of the bus fulfilled the pledge made to the university and expressed the hope that it would improve its administrative and operational activities.
Receiving the vehicle, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Abel Nze Onunu, thanked Governor Oborevwori for fulfilling his promise to provide the institution with a bus.
Onunu said the vehicle would strengthen the university’s operations and support its efforts to deliver on its mandate.
He also expressed optimism that continued cooperation between the institution and the Delta State Government would contribute to addressing the shortage of medical personnel in the country.
The Vice-Chancellor appealed to the state government to sustain its support for the university, while conveying the institution’s appreciation to the governor for the gesture.
The presentation adds to the state government’s engagement with the university as the institution develops its academic and administrative structures in Kwale.
