ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Government has expressed confidence that the implementation of the proposed 2025 appropriation law will leave a lasting legacy in the state’s development, particularly through the MORE Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration.
This assurance was given by the Commissioner for Finance, Sir Fidelis Tilije, and the Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr Sonny Ekadayen, during their appearances before the State Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation to defend their ministries’ budget proposals.
Speaking with Assembly correspondents after the session, Sir Tilije highlighted the administration’s commitment to driving economic growth through strategic investments in critical sectors, notably agriculture.
“2025 will mark the peak of the MORE Agenda. There will be major economic variables that will drive the system, directly impacting the state and its people. For instance, agriculture will receive significant attention. We believe every Local Government Area in Delta State can have its own farm settlement,” he stated.
Sir Tilije also reaffirmed the state government’s prudent fiscal approach, emphasising that there were no plans to borrow to fund the 2025 budget. “The government, under Governor Oborevwori’s leadership, will carefully manage the state’s resources to ensure maximum impact,” he added.
Echoing these sentiments, the Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr Sonny Ekadayen, underscored the government’s focus on food security as a cornerstone of the proposed budget. He disclosed that seven billion naira had been allocated to agriculture, reflecting its critical role in enhancing food production and stabilising food prices.
“The objective of every government, aside from ensuring security, is to boost food production and reduce the cost of food for the average citizen. The Ministry of Agriculture is expected to roll out programmes and policies to achieve this,” Ekadayen stated.
Both commissioners presented their budget proposals before the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, chaired by Hon. Marylyn Okowa-Daramola, representing Ika North East Constituency. Their presentations outlined plans to align the 2025 fiscal year with the administration’s overarching goal of sustainable development across Delta State.
The proposed budget is expected to deliver impactful results, particularly in agriculture, as part of a broader effort to solidify Delta State’s economic growth and improve the livelihoods of its residents.
