ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on her reappointment as Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO). Okonjo-Iweala, a distinguished Deltan from Ogwashi-Uku, was Nigeria’s Finance Minister twice and played a pivotal role in leading the country out of foreign debt under former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, in Asaba on Friday, Governor Oborevwori expressed gratitude to WTO stakeholders for recognizing Okonjo-Iweala’s contributions and renewing her mandate. First appointed in 2021, Okonjo-Iweala’s leadership and expertise have earned her global acclaim, particularly in economic reform, poverty alleviation, and international trade.
“On behalf of my family, the Government, and people of Delta State, I congratulate a worthy ambassador of Delta and Nigeria, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on her reappointment as Director-General of the World Trade Organisation,” Governor Oborevwori said. “Your reappointment, without opposition, reflects the hard work, competence, and dedication you have shown in your first term.”
The governor lauded Okonjo-Iweala’s outstanding career, describing her as a trailblazer whose achievements continue to bring pride and inspiration to Delta State and Nigeria. He expressed confidence that her second term would further enhance her reputation as a transformative leader in global trade and development.
