BOJ-BOJI/Nigeria: In a stern admonition, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, cautioned church leaders and preachers against engaging in false teachings and prophecies. Speaking at the Standing Committee Meeting of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) held at the Anglican Cathedral Church of the Ascension in Boji-Boji Owa, Ika North-East Local Government Area of the State, Governor Oborevwori emphasized the importance of the event’s theme: “Who is on the Lord’s side; Contending with Apostasy in our Generations.”
Governor Oborevwori commended the Anglican Communion for its active advocacy for good governance and lauded the church’s dedication to prayers for the nation and support for the less privileged. He underscored the prevalence of false teachings in contemporary society, citing a personal encounter with a prophet who had predicted his failure in office, a prophecy that he defied with resilience and faith.
Expressing gratitude for the church’s role in national stability through prayer, Governor Oborevwori urged continued intercession for the nation’s challenges. He pledged ongoing governmental support for initiatives fostering collaboration between the church and the state for inclusive economic growth and sustainable development.
The Most Rev’d Henry Ndukuba, Archbishop Metropolitan and Primate of All Nigeria, commended Governor Oborevwori for his support to the church and acknowledged his notable achievements in office. He highlighted pressing national concerns, including economic woes, security issues, corruption, and infrastructural deficits.
Echoing the call to discern true allegiance to the divine, The Most Rev’d Cyril Odutemu, Archbishop Ecclesiastical Province of Bendel, emphasized the necessity for the church to safeguard itself against destructive influences.
In his welcome address, Rt Rev’d Geoffrey Ekpenisi, Bishop of Ika Diocese, expressed gratitude for the trust bestowed upon the Diocese to host the Standing Committee meeting, acknowledging the support of Governor Oborevwori and his predecessors in facilitating the event.
