Delta Govt Allays Fear of Delta Line Workers Over Partnership with God Is Good Motors

ASABA/Nigeria: The Secretary to the Delta State Government (SSG), Hon. Ovie Agas has allayed fears that have enveloped the Staff of Delta Line Company Limited over the Private partnership arrangement by the State Government with God is Good Motors Limited.

Hon. Ovie Agas who was speaking in labour House recently during a meeting he held with the Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Vincent Uduaghan and his management team including the Permanent Secretary Directorate of Transport, Mr Edwin Abraka; the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on SERVICOM, Labour and Industrial Relations, Comrade Mike Okeme; the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Transport, Comrade Chibuzor Uwajeh and Management Staff of Delta Line, as well as Leaders of various Trade Unions in the State, reassured the Staff of Delta Line of Government Commitment to their wellbeing.

In the meeting the leaders of the various Labour Unions, expressed concerns over insinuations that the entitlements and benefits of Delta Line Staff might not have been taken into consideration in the already signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with God is Good Motors.

They equally stressed that they were not informed enough in the scheme of activities that culminated in the partial privatization of Delta Line.

The Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) Comrade Jonathan Jemirieyigbe on his part, commended the SSG as well as the Commissioner for Transport Mr Vincent Uduaghan for the meeting, adding, “They should be carried along in the scheme of things, in order for the people they are leading to have unalloyed support for the government as well as (they) the leaders of the various Unions in the State”.

Speaking also, the Commissioner for transport Mr Vincent Uduaghan, stressed the need and the importance of Labour Unions as well as advising them, saying, “To always express their intentions on issues of urgent importance in order to have a better synergy as well as being on the same page with Government.”

Responding, the SSG explicitly let the Labour Leaders in on the MOU, by stressing, “The entitlements and benefits as well as other concerns of the workers were considered in the MOU” adding “Though there was a communication gap along the line between the Union leaders and the government, such would be addressed subsequently.”
