Delta Govt Assures Transparent Management of Security Trust Fund

Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon

ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Government has reiterated its determination to strengthen public safety and boost security operations across the state with the formal launch of the Delta State Security Trust Fund.

Speaking during a telephone interview with Wazobia FM, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, said the initiative demonstrates Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s resolve to provide sustainable financial support for security agencies and improve the state’s overall security architecture.

Governor Oborevwori officially launched the fund last Wednesday at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Asaba, in a ceremony attended by industry leaders, security chiefs, community representatives, and top government officials.

According to Ahon, the Security Trust Fund was established in partnership with the private sector to mobilize additional resources for implementing the governor’s crime prevention and safety strategies.

“As a government, we are doing our best to ensure the safety of our people in Delta State. The Security Trust Fund was created to assist security agencies in acquiring gadgets, training, and vehicles to check the influx of criminal elements and make the state more peaceful for everyone,” Ahon stated.

He assured that the fund would be managed with utmost transparency and accountability, noting that a committee had been set up to oversee its operations. “We can assure you that every kobo contributed to the Trust Fund will be properly managed and utilized for the good of Deltans,” he said.

Ahon commended the efforts of security agencies in reducing criminal activities, particularly kidnapping, across the state. He revealed that the government is considering the creation of local vigilante groups to complement conventional security outfits while focusing on improving the efficiency of existing agencies.

“In the last few months, the issue of kidnapping has reduced because our security agencies are working closely with community and religious leaders to ensure safety,” he added.

The CPS emphasized that security remains a collective responsibility and urged residents to cooperate with security operatives by providing timely and useful information.

“Security is a joint effort. If you have any useful information, share it with us and the security agencies,” Ahon appealed.

He further warned that while Delta remains open to law-abiding citizens, those involved in criminal activities would face decisive government action. “We welcome everyone doing genuine business, but anyone involved in criminal acts will either leave the state or face the full wrath of the law,” he warned.

On infrastructure, Ahon reaffirmed the Oborevwori administration’s commitment to equitable development across all parts of the state. He cited the recent flag-off of the reconstruction of the Warri–Sapele–Benin Road as part of the administration’s broader plan to improve transportation and stimulate economic activities.

“Last week, Governor Oborevwori flagged off the reconstruction of the portion of the Warri–Sapele Road between the Effurun Roundabout and Mecca Bridge because Deltans and other Nigerians use the road daily. The Federal Government has also awarded the adjoining section from the Benin axis. It’s a 10-kilometre dual carriageway with five kilometres on each lane,” he explained.

Ahon concluded by assuring that all ongoing and future projects under Governor Oborevwori’s administration are guided by the needs of the people, stressing that no part of Delta State will be left behind in the development drive.
