Delta Govt Reads Riot Act To Revenue Consultants

WARRI/Nigeria: The Delta State Internal Revenue Service has said no ministry, department or agency of government, including individuals and corporate entities, will be allowed to manage revenue generation in the state without recourse to the Delta State Internal Revenue Service.

The service said it has the statutory duty to administer internal revenue generation in the state.

The Chairman, Delta State Internal Revenue Service, Sir Monday Onyeme, made the declaration in Warri today at a meeting he took with various revenue consultants engaged by revenue generating ministries, departments and agencies of the state government.

He reminded the consultants of section 4[1] of the Delta State Internal Revenue Service Law 2020 which specifically stated: “Notwithstanding any other law in the state, the Service shall have exclusive powers to control, administer, impose and collect different taxes and levies and other forms of revenue within the state as provided by the law.”

Onyeme noted that the meeting became necessary to “streamline the operations of the revenue consultants and harmonize the collection of taxes, levies and charges under the state revenue law 2020 for greater effectiveness and efficiency.”

The chairman, who was represented by the Secretary to the Board, Chief Mike Edegware, emphasized the intention of the revenue service to properly document, monitor and administer the processes of revenue generation in the state.

He explained that a strict process of revalidation and harmonization of the activities of revenue consultants with a view to streamlining them based on performance and commitment to increasing the revenue profile of the state.

It would be recalled that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa had earlier directed all heads of revenue generating MDAs to review all existing revenue collection arrangements with consultants in line with the provisions of the Delta State Internal Revenue Service Law 2020.
