ASABA/Nigeria: The Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, has charged journalists in the state to eschew the habit of disseminating fake information in order to avoid the rancour that can be caused by hate speech.
The Commissioner stated this while briefing the press today, August 24, 2020 at the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Information, Asaba.
He particularly harped on one Moses Abbey, a former Senior Special Adviser to the past administration, whom the commissioner said was in the habit of distorting information pertaining to the present administration in a bid to sharpen his blackmail.
On the issue of salary reduction, the commissioner explained that would not be fair to abandon major projects considering that contractors had mobilized to site hence an agreement between the state government and the labour union on the temporary salary reduction.
He further stated that if project remain active, the government would be able to provide for the majority of Deltans who were not in the state’s workforce.
Speaking further, the Commissioner described Governor Okowa as a very peaceful man who does not produce or import thugs as evident in his 2019 election and as against false allegations, with focus on prosperity and policy targeted at improving the overall welfare of Deltans.
While condemning Moses Abbey’s story, he disclosed that the State Government will continue to support the aspiration of Governor Obaseki of Edo State towards realization of his 2020 gubernatorial aspiration.
Speaking on the issue of security in the state, he noted that operation Delta Hawk would soon take off stating that some operational vehicle had already been procured for its take-off, as peace and security is one of the agenda of the present administration.
The commissioner also made it clear that the Office of the Girl Child in the state was not headed by the governor’s daughter as speculated, urging journalists to help stop mischief in the state.
