Hon Julius Eguvwebere, Councillor ward 7, Ethiope East, LGA Donating cash gift to widows and single mothers across the 11 wards in Ethiope East Local government council to cushion the effect of the lockdown and stay-at-home order in the state.

ISIOKOLO/Nigeria: Hon. Julius Eguvwebere, the Councillor representing the people of Delta State Independent Electoral Commission, (DSIEC) Ward 7 in Ethiope East Legislative Arm of the Council, has rolled out some palliatives to widows and women across the eleven (11) INEC wards in the local government to cushion the socio-economic effect of the ongoing lockdown occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic ravaging the world.
Hon. Eguvwebere who spoke to news men from Isiokolo, headquarters of Ethiope East Local government council where he donated cash gift to his people, said he has donated One Million, One Hundred Thousand Naira (#1,100,000.00) as cash gifts for the widows and single mothers in Ethiope East LGA to help cushion the effect of the lockdown across Delta State even as the country battles the coronavirus pandemic.
According to Hon Eguvwebere, “the lockdown has become very necessary as part of preventive measures currently being enforced by the Government of Delta State since April 1st, 2020. I particularly commended the proactive approach of the Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Senator Dr. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa for setting up standard isolation centres across the state that will help to remedy the effects of COVID-19. I also commended the setting up of the food bank by the Delta State government ably led by the Governor to check hunger-effect that will arise due to the lockdown and stay-at-home order in the state.”
He stated: “COVID-19 is ravaging the whole world at the moment. In Nigeria, as reported by the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC), we have 276 confirmed cases, 44 cases discharged and 6 death cases recorded already. Here in Delta State, we have just one index case reported. Meanwhile, the patient who was tested positive for COVID-19 is currently undergoing treatment by our team of medical professionals while efforts on contact tracing is ongoing. Our Governor, Senator Dr. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa is a medical Doctor who understands how to prepare for medical emergencies very well. This, he has demonstrated by providing standard isolation centres with ventilators. As if that was not enough, the setting up of the “Delta State Food Bank Committee” in response to the Covid-19 lockdown in Delta state is a nouveau initiative of the State Government which has received wider commendation across the state indicating that our Governor is ready to reach out directly to the people to check hunger and issues that border on food security. We commend our Governor for bracing up to the challenge on behalf of Deltans”.
Hon. Eguvwebere also commended the local government council chairman, Chief Mrs Faith Majemite, on her relentless effort in making sure there is strict compliance of the “sit-at-home” directives from the state government as measure of preventing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He also thanked the entire people of Ethiope East Local Government Area for their cooperation and strict adherence to the state government directives regarding the lockdown as a result of the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic.
The Councillor who is a philanthropist, a Rotarian and currently the President Elect of the Rotary Club of Sapele Urban, District 9141 further advised the beneficiaries of the cash gift to use it to get food items and stock their homes due to the lockdown in the State, emphasising that the lockdown is for their own benefit.
“My message of hope for the rest of Deltans is that there is hope at the end of the tunnel. Hopefully, our Nation will overcome this challenge”, he added.
In conclusion, Hon Eguvwebere enjoined all stakeholders in the state including security personnel at the state borders to ensure strict compliance with the state government’s directives to restrict movement in and out of the state, appealing to them that “violation of such directives from the government puts the life of everyone at risk.”
