ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State has lost one of its veteran public servants and political elders, Chief Mike Adiotomre of Ovu-Inland, Ethiope East Local Government Area, at the age of 88.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who reacted to the death, described Adiotomre as a respected elder whose long involvement in public administration, politics and peacebuilding contributed to the development of the state.

In a condolence statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the governor said Adiotomre’s experience in public affairs made him an important source of counsel to political leaders and others who sought his guidance.

Adiotomre’s public-service career included service in the former Bendel State, where he was Secretary of the Bendel State Hospitals Management Board. He subsequently remained involved in public and political affairs in Delta State.

Oborevwori said the late elder distinguished himself by his willingness to promote dialogue, particularly during periods of political disagreement, and noted that his counsel was respected beyond party lines.

The governor also recalled Adiotomre’s membership of the Delta State Advisory and Peace Building Council, where his experience was brought to bear on issues concerning peace, reconciliation and political stability.

According to Oborevwori, the late statesman occupied a significant place in the political history of Ethiope East and Delta Central, serving as an elder whose opinions were sought on matters affecting the community and the wider state.

The governor said Adiotomre’s interventions were often directed towards finding common ground among people with different political interests.

“His interventions always birthed understanding, unity and reconciliation, a testament to true heroism and statesmanship,” Oborevwori said.

The governor expressed sympathy to the Adiotomre family of Ovu-Inland, the people of Ethiope East and the Urhobo nation over the loss.

He prayed for the repose of the deceased and asked God to grant the bereaved family, friends and associates the strength to endure the loss.
