Delta NAWOJ Honours Director of Information, Calls For Gender Parity

ASABA/Nigeria: The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Delta State Chapter, has recognised the first female Director of Information in the Delta State Ministry of Information, Mrs Theresa Adiabua Oliko (JP) for her outstanding achievements as a woman journalists in the state and beyond.

Presenting a certificate of recognition to the director at the temporary press centre of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Asaba, the state capital, the Chairperson of NAWOJ in the state, Comrade Patricia Gbemudu said that women should not relegate themselves to the background in the scheme of things, adding that there was the need to ensure parity between the man and the woman in the society.

She thanked the state governor, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, for giving ample opportunities for women to serve in the administration of the state, adding that the rise of the new Director of Information to the exalted position was a thing of joy, not only to female information officers in the ministry, but women journalists in the state and beyond.

Responding, Mrs Adiabua-Oliko thanked the leadership of NAWOJ in the state for recognising her modest contributions in the uplifting of humanity through information management in the state, adding that she had a humble beginning, but was determined to succeed, not minding all the societal inhibitions against the woman in the society.

She appreciated her parents for giving her the launch pad to excel in life, adding that every woman should strive to excel in life, not minding daunting societal inhibitions.

Mrs Adiabua-Oliko holds a first degree in History and a master’s degree in International Relations as well as a post graduate diploma in Journalism from the International Institute of Journalism.

Alicia Ejaiye-Okobi, Special Assistant (SA) on media to the wife of the state governor, was also one of the recipients of certificates of recognition at the occasion.
