Delta NAWOJ Intensifies Advocacy Efforts.

ASABA/Nigeria: Members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Delta State Chapter have reiterated their commitment to upholding the rights of the public to know the truth through advocacy and synergy.

The State Chairperson, Comrade Patricia Gbemudu stated this while receiving an award as “The Altruist” in recognition of her “undaunted efforts in the fight against cancer”, as well as a certificate of appreciation given to Delta NAWOJ for their “Altruistic Support and participation in the fight against Cervical Cancer.

The award which came as a surprise was presented by the Concern for Peace and Society Survival, COPASS, Asaba, shortly after a Sensitization campaign on Eradication of Malaria in Africa, organized by Delta NAWOJ in partnership with Ned Nwoko Foundation and other partners.

The malaria sensitization program kick started with a road walk from the Traffic light junction Cable point, Asaba, Delta state, and terminated at the Cable market, Asaba, where NAWOJ members and their partners sensitized commuters, passersby, residents and traders on how to protect themselves from malaria.

The synergy of the partners including female lawyers, medical women, Soroptomist International, and other civil society groups, delivered results as many trooped in to take advantage of the free malaria test carried out by the female Doctors at the event.

While thanking God for the success of the program and COPASS for the recognition, Comrade Gbemudu dedicated the award to God and to the Association, adding that it was a call to higher service.

In her remarks, the Zonal Secretary, NAWOJ, Zone F, Comrade Eunice Emeyazia commended the Delta NAWOJ Chairperson and her team for their passion in carrying out various sensitization programs in the state, saying that advocacy remains a viable tool for social change.

Comrade Emeyazia who participated in the sensitization exercise, noted that the Delta Must Be Clean Campaign launched by Comrade Patricia Gbemudu since her first tenure, has continued to impact lives, especially the rural and urban poor, and urged her not to relent in her efforts.
