ASABA/Nigeria: The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta North Senatorial District has thrown its full weight behind the creation of Anioma State, proposed to become the sixth state in Nigeria’s South-East geopolitical zone.
In a formal letter dated November 3, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of the Senate Sub-committee on State Creation, Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno, the APC Delta North Zonal Chairman, Chief Adizue Eluaka, affirmed that the Anioma people are “fully prepared and ready for statehood.”
Chief Eluaka stated that the people of Delta North are united in their resolve to achieve the creation of Anioma State, describing the demand as a matter of fairness, equity, and strategic balance in Nigeria’s federal structure.
“The APC Delta North Senatorial District is fully and unequivocally in support of the creation of Anioma State. The realization of Anioma State stands as both a matter of fairness and strategic advantage for the federation,” Eluaka wrote.
He emphasized that there was no dissenting voice within Delta North against the proposal, stressing that the move reflects the long-standing aspirations of the Anioma people and aligns with the principles of justice and historical continuity.
Chief Eluaka called on the Senate to honour the legacy of past Anioma leaders, particularly Chief Dennis Osadebey, the first Premier of the defunct Mid-Western Region, noting that the creation of Anioma State would strengthen representation, unity, and administrative balance within the Nigerian federation.
He commended Senator Ned Nwoko for his leadership and foresight in sponsoring the Anioma State Creation Bill, which seeks to correct the imbalance where the South-East currently has only five states compared to six in most other geopolitical zones and seven in one.
According to Eluaka, the Anioma proposal remains the most detailed and well-prepared among all state creation requests presently before the National Assembly, adding that the initiative has gained renewed national recognition and support.
Recalling the historical sacrifices and experiences of the Anioma people during the Nigerian Civil War, he said the realization of Anioma State would not only heal old wounds but also restore pride and confidence among its people.
Chief Eluaka reaffirmed that Anioma possesses the population, economic viability, and administrative capacity required for statehood, stressing that its creation would strengthen the South-East’s political representation, landmass, and economic base.
“The creation of Anioma as the sixth state of the South-East will enhance Nigeria’s political stability and national unity. It is both an act of justice and a reaffirmation of the Senate’s responsiveness to the aspirations of the Nigerian people,” he concluded.
