Asaba: The Delta State Government has said that it is ready to partner with any institution with ideas that will impact positively on the human capital development of Deltans.
This was disclosed by the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Peter Mrakpor during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the state government and Novena University, Ogume, Ukwuani Local Government Area, on the use of government medical facilities for its professional trainings.
Congratulating the institution on the enviable feats achieved so far, Mrakpor assured that government will build on the relationship so far established by the MoU.
Also speaking at the event, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nicholas Azinge noted that the signing of the MoU was a landmark project to ensure a fruitful synergy between government and the university, adding that with the signing of the MOU, the university can now make use of the facilities in government hospitals for the training of its medical professionals.
The Chairman, Governing Council of Novena University, Mr. Chuks Ochonongor on behalf of the school, expressed appreciation to the state government for endorsing the partnership and stated that it will help the institution to groom medical professionals with requisite skills.
He assured of the institution’s readiness to partner with government on any venture that will bring about positive impact on the state.Explaining the development, the Special Adviser to the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ojodume Okuguni said that Novena University has training programmes for medical cadres such as doctors, pharmacists, laboratory scientists and nurses, among others, which would need well established hospitals for clinical trainings and experience, as well as accreditation purposes.
He said that government was expected to generate fund known as ‘Bench fee,’ which would be paid by students in the process and also gain assistance such as equipment/facilities from the institution for the upgrade of selected hospitals to meet accreditation requirement.
