ASABA/Nigeria: Political parties in the state had been admonished to carryout issue based electioneering campaign, by avoiding anything that will lead to violence during and after the 2019 election.
Making this warning in their recent State Executive Council, (SEC), meeting the Nigerian Union of Journalist, (NUJ), in their communiqué, signed by Comrade Michael Ikeogwu, Chairman, Comrade Celestine Afokobah, Assistant Secretary, said that the various political parties should go about their electioneering campaigns without rancour, bickering and acrimony during the exercise and as such engage in issue-based campaigns.
The meeting also, cautioned youths and the media against been used as agent of destruction during the election.
“Youths should not allow themselves to be used as agents of destruction and political thugs during the exercise, even as the press (media) should not be gagged by politicians, security agents or interest groups.”
Meanwhile, the union had made passionate appeal to the Executive Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa to expedite solution to the court issue that had engulfed the land where the union secretariat is being built, as the legal case is making the body loose financially resulting from bank charges.
“SEC appealed to the Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, to expedite action on the litigation surrounding the ownership of the land given by the state government to the union on which the state secretariat is being erected. This appeal became necessary as the N17 million (seventeen million naira) given to the union to complete the project is lying fallow and fast depleting owing to bank charges.”
The meeting among other resolution also condemned the rampant ritual killings going on in the state.
