Delta NUJ Appoints Prince Ned Nwoko Patron

ASABA/Nigeria:  Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has appointed Hon Ned Nwoko as one of its patrons.

The appointment was announced by the State Chairman of the NUJ, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu, when the State Executive of the Union paid Prince Nwoko a courtesy visit in his country home, Idumuje Ugboko in Aniocha North Local Government Area.

Comrade Ikeogwu said the former federal lawmaker was one of the recipients of the 2017 Press Week/Award ceremony, by the Delta State Council of the Union, pointing out that the event was a formal presentation of the award to him.

He said the Union does not monetize its awards but bestows it on people with track record in their public and private life.

According to him, Hon Nwoko was found qualified to be patron due to his selfless service to humanity and his input in the development of Delta and the nation at large.

He particularly thanked Hon Nwoko for his input in the Paris Club refund that helped many state governors to pay its workers including local government staff and enjoined him not to cease being a good ambassador of the state.

The Chairman appreciated the awardee for his philanthropic gesture to the needy in the society and urged him to see the award as a call to more services to the society.

In his acceptance speech, Hon Ned Nwoko said he was happy to be found worthy to be a patron of the Delta State Council of the NUJ and promised to continue to impact on humanity and total transformation of the state and the country at large.

He challenged Journalists as fourth estate of the realm to adhere strictly to the ethics of the profession in addition to using their reports to correct ills in the society.

He said that he would remain a friend of the press and anyone that believed in the good of the society irrespective of tribe, religion and ideology.

Highlight of the event was the presentation of a plague to Hon. Nwoko a recipient of the 2017 Press Week/Award by Comrade Ikeogwu as a patron of the Union for his philanthropic gesture.
