The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Delta state, has dismissed the purported defection of some Deltans to the All Progressive Congress, APC, describing it as inconsequential and of no effect to the fortunes of the PDP in the state.
The declaration was made by the State Publicity Secretary, PDP, Mr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, when he addressed newsmen in Asaba, on the implications of the purported defection.
Mr. Osuoza, who noted that politicians were at liberty to seek political platforms to actualize their political ambitions, however added that many politicians who have defected to other platforms outside the PDP, have not only found themselves in the political wilderness, but have ended up committing political suicide, noting that the fate of these recent defectors will not be any different, if they do not look properly before they leap.
The Delta PDP Spokesman stated that these so called high profile defectors, have been roundly defeated in past elections in the state and while dismissing them as political spent forces who lacked the capacity to win election even in their own wards, let alone local government and state levels, stressed that the PDP still has the political wherewithal to defeat them again and again in future election.
He noted that the PDP was solid in Delta State and was well poised to continue to win elections in all nooks and crannies in the state, insisting that the acceptability of the PDP has been further enhanced by the excellent performance of the Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, who he described as a miracle working governor, in the past one year.
Osuoza, who affirmed that the current Party leadership had commenced a comprehensive drive to re-position the PDP in the state and consolidate on the gains of democracy over the years, hailed the astute and resulted-oriented administration of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, as showcased in the massive commissioning and inspection of projects across the three Senatorial zones, to make the first anniversary of his administration recently, adding that this has not only greatly enhanced the acceptance of the party and Governor Okowa, but has also endeared Deltans across the state to the PDP.
He charged the PDP family to remain resolute and focused in promoting the laudable ideals of the party, especially at the grassroots and while advising them to explore new vistas of making the party more attractive to encourage new membership, assured that every newly registered member would be accorded deserved importance and recognition, as they were all equal stakeholders in the scheme of party operations.
The Delta PDP Publicity Secretary, then urged Deltans to embrace the visionary and progressive leadership of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, as encapsulated in the brilliant SMART agenda and continue to support the governor, even as he enjoined them to pray for the PDP and the Okowa administration, to achieve more successes and actualize the prosperity for all Deltans desire, in the state.
