ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its ongoing war against violent crime, arresting suspected armed robbers and gun runners in separate sting operations across the state.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, the operations were carried out by operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) following credible intelligence on the activities of criminal gangs terrorizing communities.
In the early hours of June 11, 2025, at about 3:45 am, CP-SAT operatives led by ASP Julius Robinson raided a residence on Adams Street, Mosogar, where two suspects — 29-year-old Koko Josh from Otor-Iyede, Isoko North LGA, and 27-year-old Asomugha Clinton from Mbaisse, Ezinihitte LGA, Imo State, were arrested.
A search of the premises uncovered a black bag containing a fabricated Baretta pistol loaded with two live rounds, two locally made cut-to-size guns, eight live cartridges, several mobile phones, a laptop, and fetish items believed to be tools of their criminal trade.
Further investigations led to the arrest of two additional suspects: 26-year-old Anthony Kelvin from Orhoakpor, Ethiope East LGA, and 25-year-old Gift Amotsuka from Jakpa, Warri North LGA. Both were also picked up on Adams Street, Mosogar. Police sources believe the suspects are members of the Aiye confraternity.
In a separate sting operation on June 13, 2025, around 4:00 pm, CP-SAT operatives stormed the Okpanam area of Asaba, where they apprehended 36-year-old Ekene Chroma of Issele-Uku and 18-year-old Okafor Jonathan of Onicha-Ugbo, both in Aniocha North LGA.
A search of their residence led to the recovery of two English single-barrel guns and 110 live cartridges. Preliminary findings indicate the suspects are linked to gun-running activities in the state.
Commending the efforts of the operatives, Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, expressed appreciation to members of the public for providing actionable intelligence that made the arrests possible. He called on residents to continue supporting the police in the fight against crime to ensure a safer Delta State.
The Command confirmed that all suspects remain in custody as investigations continue
