ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Police Command has intensified its offensive against violent crime, arresting suspected cultists and a native doctor in separate operations that led to the recovery of firearms and dangerous weapons across the state.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the command disclosed that on June 18, 2025, at about 12:20 p.m., Eagle-Net operatives on routine stop-and-search duty intercepted a black Toyota Corolla with registration number RSH 90 RC at Otokutu Bridge, Warri. The vehicle was driven by 27-year-old Telvin Richmond, with 26-year-old Frank Obiorah as a passenger, both residents of Opete by Otokutu.

It stated that a detailed search of the vehicle uncovered a locally made cut-to-size gun, two yellow hand bands marked with the Neo Black Movement (NBM) insignia, a battle axe, and a wooden pistol hidden in the door compartments. Preliminary findings identified the suspects as members of the Aiye confraternity. Richmond confessed to purchasing the firearm in 2024 for ₦87,000 from a suspect who is currently on the run. The duo remains in custody as investigations continue.

In an earlier operation on June 14, 2025, the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Squad, acting on credible intelligence, stormed the residence of one Okonji Chimeze, a 47-year-old native doctor at Umuehe Quarter, Ibusa. A search of the premises led to the discovery of two automatic pump-action guns and a cutlass concealed in the ceiling. Chimeze was arrested on the spot and is assisting police with ongoing investigations.

SP Edafe reiterated the command’s resolve to rid the state of cultism, armed robbery, and illegal arms possession, assuring residents of sustained efforts to ensure their safety.
