AGBARHO/Nigeria: In a decisive operation against criminal activities, the Delta State Police Command has scored a significant victory following a successful raid on a suspected kidnappers’ hideout in Agbarho.
The operation, initiated by a timely tip-off from a vigilant community member, led to the recovery of a substantial arms cache, bolstering the state’s efforts in fighting crime.
According to the Police Commissioner, Abaniwonda Olufemi officers acted on intelligence provided by a local vigilante, resulting in a rapid and coordinated operation in Uwurghelli village, near the rail tracks.
The operation, led by Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Josephine Ekebuike of Agbarho Division, involved cordoning off and thoroughly searching the area. Hidden in the bushes, officers discovered sacks containing a significant arsenal: three AK-49 rifles, two AK-47 rifles, and 207 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.
The Commissioner lauded the swift and effective action taken by the Agbarho Division.
“The prompt response to credible information is vital in our efforts to combat crime,”
Olufemi stated, emphasizing the importance of police-community partnerships in maintaining safety. He urged the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement, reiterating the command’s commitment to promptly acting on any credible information to prevent crime.
“Our goal is to ensure that criminal elements have nowhere to hide and are brought to justice swiftly,”.
The command has since launched a manhunt for the suspected kidnappers who managed to flee the scene. Residents have been urged to report any suspicious activities to the police.
SP Edafe Bright, Police Public Relations Officer for Delta State Command, reinforced the commitment of the police to maintaining law and order.
