ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Police Command has issued a fresh warning to residents as part of intensified security measures for the Yuletide season, insisting that the ban on fireworks—including knockouts, bangers, and other pyrotechnics—remains fully in force across the state. The directive was contained in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.

According to the statement, Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, ordered strict enforcement of the prohibition due to the security risks associated with fireworks, noting that criminals often exploit the noise to commit offences and create panic among unsuspecting residents. He stated that the ban covers the sale, use, distribution, and public display of all categories of fireworks.

The police warned parents and guardians to restrain their children and wards from using fireworks and cautioned traders to immediately stop the sale of such items. The Command said anyone found violating the order would be arrested, prosecuted, and have their goods confiscated.

To ensure full enforcement, CP Abaniwonda directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, along with Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders, to intensify patrols, monitor compliance, and address breaches across their jurisdictions.

The Command commended Deltans for their cooperation and urged the public to report any incident involving the sale or use of fireworks to the nearest police station or through the control room hotlines: 08036684974, 08114895600, and 08025666914.

The Commissioner of Police extended warm Christmas and New Year wishes to residents, assuring that the Command remains committed to maintaining peace and safety throughout the festive season.
