Asaba: The Delta State Police Command in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corp FRSC, Nigerian Civil Defence Corp NCDC, as the Delta State Traffic Management Agency DESTMA, have launched operation ‘Free-Flow of Traffic’ to ensure free movement of traffic throughout yuletide period.
The Deputy Police Commissioner in charge of operations in the state, Mr. Undie Adie, who represented the state Commissioner of Police, Mr.Zanna Ibrahim, the said the exercise become necessary to curtail the unnecessary grid lock usually experience by motorists and other road users throughout the yuletide season.
He also allayed fears of the motorists about the presence of soldiers in the head bridge, saying that the presence of the soldiers would collaborate with the Road Safety Commission (FRSC) Officers/Men including the police to ensure hitch free of crimes, including free flow of traffic ahead of the Christmas and New year periods.
His words: “There is no cause for alarm, we the police will collaborate with FRSC, the military to ensure hitch free crimes, and free flow of traffic ahead of the Christmas/New year season. I called on drivers to drive with cautious. I also want to advise the passengers to caution drivers against reckless driving.”
Investigation revealed that miscreants including pick pockets who used to have their field days of activities around the head bridge, have disappeared into the thin air while the road side traders, many of who allegedly sell Indian hemp to trailer drivers have disappeared to avoid being arrested.
