ASABA/Nigeria: Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have rescued a kidnapped girl and arrested her alleged abductor in Agbor, while another team of officers in Asaba rounded up 27 suspected armed robbers and recovered firearms and illicit drugs in a coordinated crackdown on crime across the state.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, the rescue operation was led by the Divisional Police Officer of Agbor Division, CSP Obekpa Michael, acting on credible intelligence that a man had abducted young girls from the North and was keeping them against their will.
The operatives, with support from local vigilantes, stormed Oza Nogogo community and raided the residence of one Bila Halili, aged 30, of Kosso community, Sokoto State. The suspect was found in company of a young girl later identified as Rebecca Mathew of Bodinga community, Washegu Local Government Area, Niger State.
Rebecca, who had been declared missing since September 2, 2025, was rescued by the police team. Investigators discovered that the suspect allegedly lured her from her family home, destroyed her SIM card to cut off communication, and kept her under what appeared to be hypnotic control. The victim’s mother, Esther Moses, confirmed that a complaint had earlier been lodged at the Niger State Police Command when her daughter disappeared. The suspect is now in custody, and investigation is ongoing.
In a separate operation, operatives of the Eagle Net Special Squad in Asaba, working in synergy with the Nigeria Hunters Forest Security Service, raided a criminal hideout at Basket Market along Asaba–Benin Road, Uromi Junction.
Led by SP Yunusa Danyaya, the squad apprehended 27 adult suspects during the raid. A locally fabricated cut-to-size gun and a large quantity of illicit drugs were recovered at the scene. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had been using the hideout as a base to plan and rehearse criminal activities. They remain in custody as investigations continue.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the operatives for the successful operations and reiterated the command’s resolve to rid the state of criminal elements. He urged residents to see security as a collective responsibility by providing timely and credible information to the police to aid crime fighting.
