ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Police Command has announced a raft of proactive security measures aimed at strengthening public safety, preventing crime and ensuring a peaceful environment across the state, in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police to deepen visibility policing and intelligence-led operations.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, who said the initiative is being implemented under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, mandating Commands nationwide to reinforce community partnership and crime prevention strategies.
Edafe disclosed that the Command has commenced massive deployment of personnel across all nine Area Commands, divisions and other critical points within the state, with intensified stop-and-search operations along major highways, entry and exit routes, as well as identified flashpoints.
He added that the strategy also includes sustained day and night visibility patrols and coordinated operations with other security agencies to enhance response capacity and deter criminal activities.
According to the Command, operational priorities have been streamlined to ensure a focused and result-driven approach, including the protection of lives and property, maintenance of law and order, prevention of unlawful gatherings and disruption of criminal networks.
The measures also emphasise strengthened community engagement for intelligence gathering and sustained intelligence-led raids on black spots and criminal hideouts across the state.
The Command further revealed that targeted operations are being intensified to dismantle kidnapping and herdsmen-related criminal activities in key flashpoints such as Owa-Oyibu, Ogwashi-Uku power line axis, Okpanam, Ashaka, Ovwero in Ughelli North, Umunede, Igbodo, Idumusa and Ute, as well as other border communities.
The police said the operations are aimed at dislodging criminal elements, restoring public confidence and securing all entry and exit corridors within Delta State.
As part of efforts to deepen community policing, the Commissioner of Police has directed all Area Commanders to immediately convene stakeholders’ town hall meetings within their jurisdictions to enhance collaboration and improve intelligence gathering.
The Command urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or security breaches through its control room lines, assuring that all information would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
It also encouraged members of the public to utilise the Complaint Response Unit lines to report cases of police misconduct or rights violations, stressing that erring officers would be sanctioned.
Reassuring residents of the Command’s commitment to its constitutional responsibility, CP Oyeniyi urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information capable of causing panic and advised parents and guardians to monitor the activities of their wards.
He reiterated that security remains a collective responsibility, calling on community leaders, transport unions and other stakeholders to collaborate with the Police in enforcing the measures, while assuring that officers have been adequately briefed to discharge their duties with professionalism and respect for human rights.
