ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Government has removed its Works Commissioner, Reuben Izeze, from office indefinitely to allow security agencies investigate allegations surrounding the reported assault of a senior aide to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
The suspension, which takes immediate effect, was announced in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu, on Monday.
The government said the decision was necessary to give security agencies room to conduct an impartial investigation into allegations linking Izeze to the reported assault of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Protocol, Simon Mudi, popularly known as Temple.
The alleged incident reportedly occurred at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun.
Rather than make a determination on the allegations, the government said the suspension was intended to facilitate the investigation and ensure that the process could proceed without interference.
The statement reaffirmed the administration’s position that public safety, law and order and the protection of human life must be upheld in all circumstances.
It stressed that the principle applied even when allegations involved government officials or institutions of the state.
The government did not give a timeline for the investigation or indicate when Izeze might return to office, saying only that his suspension would remain indefinite.
The development places the commissioner’s official responsibilities on hold while the security agencies examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident.
The suspension itself does not constitute a finding of guilt against Izeze, and the allegations remain subject to investigation.
