ASABA/Nigeria: The Governor of Delta State, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, extended his congratulations to Delta Queens for their triumph in the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) tournament known as Super 6.
Delta Queens emerged victorious by defeating Bayelsa Queens with a score of 2-1 in the final match held at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba on Sunday. This achievement also grants the Delta State team the opportunity to represent Nigeria in the upcoming West African Football Union (WAFU) B Women’s CAF Champions League qualifiers.
Governor Oborevwori personally received the trophy from the team and commended their hard-fought victory. He emphasized Delta’s reputation for sports and urged the team to adequately prepare for the continental tournament.
The Governor, through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Festus Ahon, praised the team’s exceptional performance in the championship, highlighting their impressive performance during the regular season where they topped group B with 26 points.
Governor Oborevwori attributed the team’s success to the dedication, commitment, and focus of the management, coaches, and players. He assured ongoing support from the State Government to help the team secure further accomplishments for the State and the Country, particularly as they qualified to represent Nigeria in the West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B play-off for the second CAF African Women’s Champions League.
The Governor expressed his delight in winning the tournament after an 11-year gap and conveyed his congratulations to the organizers for hosting a high-quality event. He concluded by assuring that the State Government will continue to provide all necessary assistance to the team as they represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League via the WAFU qualifying window in August.
