Delta Ramps Up Measles-Rubella Vaccination to Protect Children

ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Government has intensified efforts to protect children against deadly diseases with the official launch of the Measles-Rubella Vaccine (MRV) Advocacy Rollout, targeting children between nine months and 15 years.

The campaign, flagged off by the wife of the Governor, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, at Unity Hall, Government House Asaba, is in partnership with the You Matter Charity Foundation, Nigeria Governors’ Spouses Forum, WHO, and other donor agencies.

Speaking at the event, Deaconess Oborevwori urged parents and caregivers to take advantage of the free vaccination drive, emphasizing that the MORE Agenda under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori prioritizes child health and the reduction of preventable diseases and child mortality.

Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, stressed that measles and rubella are highly contagious and can lead to severe complications or death, noting that the vaccines would be administered across 441 health centres in the state.

Representatives of WHO, UNICEF, and other global health partners joined state officials, lawmakers, and religious leaders at the ceremony, reaffirming their commitment to supporting Delta’s public health initiatives.
