ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has recorded a historic leap in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), raking in a staggering ₦104.08 billion between January and June 2025—marking a 133.41% performance over the same period last year.

The Executive Chairman of the Board, Hon. Solomon Ighrakpata, in a statement, described the achievement as a major fiscal milestone. He revealed that the ₦104.08 billion collected in the first half of 2025 surpassed the ₦78.02 billion generated in the same period of 2024, creating a positive difference of ₦26.06 billion.

“This performance reflects about 77.62% of our annual revenue target of ₦134.09 billion as projected in the 2025 budget,” Ighrakpata said, adding that the board is confident of exceeding its target by year-end.

He attributed the breakthrough to the visible use of taxpayers’ money by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, whose projects across the three senatorial districts of the state have spurred public confidence and compliance. He also praised the synergy among IRS board members, management, and staff.

Acknowledging the role of technical partners, Ighrakpata commended ICMA Professional Services and Zopaz Advisory Services for their strategic support in driving IGR performance.

The IRS chairman also listed other key strategies that boosted revenue, including expanded stakeholder engagement, taxpayer education, a whistle-blower policy, enhanced compliance monitoring units, tax investigations, and prompt reconciliation through the Tax Audit Review Committee (TARC).

He extended heartfelt appreciation to all partners and institutions, including federal and state MDAs, security agencies, banks, private sector actors, trade unions, traditional rulers, and local governments for their collaborative efforts in fulfilling tax obligations.

“The funds generated are already translating into people-focused projects under the M.O.R.E. Agenda of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff F.O. Oborevwori,” Ighrakpata stated, noting that public cooperation remains vital in sustaining the momentum.
