WARRI/Nigeria: The Secretary to Delta State Government (SSG), Mr. Chiedu Ebie, has reiterated government’s commitment towards building a stronger Delta through the effective management, regulation of traffic related matters and maintenance of free flow traffic in the state.
Mr Ebie stated this in Warri during the closing ceremony of a-five-day capacity building workshop for officers of the Delta State Traffic Management Authority (DESTMA) held at the Multi-Purpose Youth Training Centre, Egbokodo-Itsekiri, Warri.
The SSG noted that sustainable traffic management was critical in ensuring the safety, security and welfare of all road users in Delta State, maintaining that there was need to curtail unnecessary attitude of some motorists and road users who do not take into consideration the importance of securing their lives.
Mr Ebie who was represented by the Director of Finance and Administration in the Directorate of Transport, Mr Daniel Akiri, lauded Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his administration’s strategic approach to addressing the needs and expectations of the Delta State Traffic Management Authority.
He said that the state government recently recruited 400 traffic management personnel to boost the required manpower to man various bits across the state owing to increasing vehicular traffic on the roads and highways.
Mr Ebie recalled that the purpose of the training, which drew seasoned resource persons from the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), Edo State Traffic Management Agency (EDSMA) and the Nigeria Police Force was aimed at sharpening the mental capacity of the participants to brace up for effective service delivery and advised the officers to maximize the knowledge gained to move the state forward contributing their quota.
Earlier, DESTMA Director of Administration, Mr Samuel Okonye and the Director of Technical Services, Mr Patrick Atufe described the workshop as fulfilling and commended the governor’s vision and passion towards the welfare of DESTMA as the brain child of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa.
They enjoined DESTMA officers to justify the huge government resources for the training to discharge their duties in tandem with the experience of Deltans.
In her remarks, the centre administrator, multi-urpose training centre, Egbokodo-Itsekiri Warri, Mrs. Peace Oreva Okonye, urged the officers to have value reorientation and desist from applying force in handling their jobs advising them to be civil.
The participants thanked the governor for not only providing job for them but also strengthening them for optimum service delivery just as they disclosed that they would continue to take their job seriously.
