Delta State Commences Special Training for Secondary School Administrators and Educators Enhancing Educational Efficiency

ASABA/Nigeria: In a bid to amplify service delivery within public secondary schools, the Delta State Government has unveiled its commitment to consistent capacity building for administrators and educators.

The announcement was made on Monday by the State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, during the inauguration of a comprehensive two-day orientation and capacity-building program in Ughelli.

The program, orchestrated by the Ministry, targeted 300 senior educators and school principals drawn from Delta Central and Delta South Senatorial Districts. Mrs. Ezewu highlighted several critical challenges confronting the education sector, encompassing insufficient science facilities, inadequate record-keeping practices, incidents of teacher and student bullying, and a shortfall in skill development.

Underlining the pivotal role of education in societal advancement, the commissioner emphasized that it remains the cornerstone for human capital development. She articulated, “Education is the main instrument through which society acquires knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values that enable the population to develop their full potentials.”

Asserting the purpose behind the strategic training initiative, Mrs. Ezewu remarked, “This strategic training programme has been put in place by the Ministry to retool and reengineer public secondary schools’ administrators and senior educators in the state.”

Encouraging participants to disseminate the acquired knowledge among their subordinates, she further expounded on the workshop’s overarching goal. “The aim of the workshop is to contribute to quality human capital development that would drive sustainable growth and development in the economy.”

The commissioner highlighted key objectives, stating, “Enhancing access to quality education, improving the quality and competences of teachers towards the delivery of sound education, providing a conducive atmosphere for learning, and establishing veritable teaching platforms for teachers.”

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s endorsement of the training session was commended, with Mrs. Ezewu noting, “It is with this in mind that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori graciously approved this training session which is the first in the series.”

Emphasizing the intended reach of this initiative, she added, “While it is expected that gradually every public school administrator and educator in the state would benefit from similar training, you are expected to cascade the knowledge garnered here to your colleagues.”

The seminar witnessed the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including the Permanent Secretary of the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Comrade Samuel Dietake; Zonal Permanent Secretary of the Post Primary Education Board, Dr. Whiskey Emore; renowned resource person Dr. Charles Apoki, and top officials of the Ministry, among others.
